Word on the street is that Diego Costa wants out of Chelsea, and he’s got his eye on a return to Estadio Vicente Calderón.
The Brazilian who plays for the Spanish national team doesn’t really want to be a part of the Antonio Conte era at Stamford Bridge, and would rather play under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.
It’s just a summer rumor, but this rumor isn’t really new; Costa has been linked back to a return to his old club since earlier this year, and Chelsea’s campaign last season might have frustrated the striker. Now that the London club have new management it’s odd that Costa would want to leave, but maybe he wants Champions League football. It’s important to take this with a grain of salt, as Costa and Conte haven’t even spoken yet, but you can’t blame the guy for wanting to go back home where things are good.
Also, there’s the recent signing of Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi, a young, pacey player who has a knack for scoring. Michy isn’t guaranteed to get first team action every week, but it would be a wasted signing of he wasn’t given his share of playing time next season, Costa or no.
Diego has notched 32 goals in his time at Stamford Bridge, 14 of which were bagged last season, but it’s hard to score when Eden Hazard is in the midst of the worst year of his life and only had 3 assists to his name.
If Diego leaves Chelsea, Conte and company don’t have to stress too much, as Roman Abramovich’s pockets are bottomless, and with a young striker with loads of potential suiting up (as well as the huge signing of N’Golo Kanté), Chelsea FC look like they’ll be ready for this upcoming season, and many after.
Just don’t expect a return to the top four this year.
